Building a home in Queensland?

Orientation
If possible, face the long side of your house or renovation towards the north, so the winter sun can enter. Face the short sides to the east and west to reduce exposure to the hot morning and afternoon sun in summer

Roof
Plan for your eaves to be at least 600mm or 45% of the window height on the northern side of the house (whichever is greater). Eaves need to be 600mm or wider on the east and west (Figure 2).

Insist on light materials for the roof like corrugated iron. Tiles store heat and make the house hotter on summer evenings.

Dark roofs absorb heat and make your house significantly hotter in summer. Insist on light colours for your roof.

Insulate the ceiling and ventilate the roof space to reduce heat build up in summer.

If you're looking for good parcels of land for your development project, we can help.

Yours in property!
