$315 million is being spent on the Ted Smout Bridge (referred to as Houghton Highway Duplication Project), which involves construction of a new 2.7km road, cycle and pedestrian bridge between Brisbane and Redcliffe.
Planned for completion in mid 2010, the Ted Smout Bridge has reached Clontarf and is on it's way toward relieving the traffic bottleneck between the Brisbane and the Peninsula. The project will result in one way traffic flowing north (Houghton Highway) and one way traffic flowing south (Ted Smout Memorial).
As part of the project
- the Hornibrook Bridge (built in 1935 and heritage listed) will be decommissioned, with the exception of the iconic bridge entry portals at either end.

- cycle and pedestrian access will be improved
- a fishing platform will be constructed
- northern and southern road infrastructure will be remodelled to all better flow onto and off the two bridges
All-in-all, this is good for property owners purchasing on the Peninsula!
