For anyone who travels regularly over the Gateway Bridge, you'll be pleased to know the end's in sight. Personally, I can't wait to cycle over the bridge once it's ready to go!! : )
Anyway, here's a quick project update released today describing construction activity for the Gateway Upgrade Project from the project team (Queensland Motorways and Leighton Abigroup JV):
GATEWAY BRIDGES
Installation of the bridge fittings including safety screens, bridge parapets, drainage, and service connections continue for the new Gateway Bridge.
Works associated with the pedestrian and cycle path on the eastern side of the new bridge are progressing. Construction of the park under the Gateway bridges has commenced with drainage and earthworks.

SOUTHERN SECTION
12km Gateway Motorway upgrade between Lytton Road and Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road.
Lytton Road area, Murarrie: Construction of the northbound Lytton Road abutment retaining wall continues and construction of the new Port of Brisbane Motorway off-ramp is ongoing, including earthworks, drainage, pier protection, retaining walls and pavements. Mid January southbound traffic will be switched onto the temporary carriageway under Lytton Road to allow the reconstruction of the existing Motorway. Pavement and drainage works will progress in the old toll plaza area.
Bulimba Creek to Wynnum Road, Tingalpa: Completion of the expansion joints on the Bulimba Creek bridge have been rescheduled to February.
Wynnum Road, Tingalpa to Old Cleveland Road, Carindale:
Earthworks and stormwater drainage installations on the northbound carriageway are progressing with pavement construction scheduled to commence in late January. Widening of the existing culvert south of Wynnum Road has commenced.
Meadowlands Road bridge, Belmont: Construction of the foundations for the next stage of the new Meadowlands Road bridge are ongoing.
Old Cleveland Road, Carindale to Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road, Mackenzie: Open grade asphalt surfacing and line marking on the northbound carriageway is scheduled to commence this month. Miscellaneous works to complete this section of the project are ongoing.
Due to safety and traffic considerations some works must be undertaken at night. There may be some noise associated with these operations however construction personnel will endeavour,
wherever possible, to mitigate any impacts.
NORTHERN SECTION – ONGOING WORKS
Gateway Bridge to just south of Nudgee Road
The new 7km Gateway Motorway opened in July 2009. As part of a staged construction, ongoing changes will continue in the northern section of the project. Current works include:
· Construction of a new pedestrian and cycle path between Lavarack Avenue and Kingsford Smith Drive (Eagle Farm) is ongoing, which will eventually connect with the facility on the new Gateway Bridge.
